my toddler is way more emotionally intelligent than i am…

If you watched Sunday’s vlog episode, you may have noticed Emery’s little angry outburst. Actually… it wasn’t really that angry, but she was very expressive about how she felt and what caused her to feel that way.

Kier and I have always been intentional about teaching Emery how to properly articulate and express her feelings. The intent, at least on my part, is largely a result of how I was raised. As the child of immigrants, talking about our “feelings” wasn’t something that was prioritized often. I don’t think this was intentional. I think it was simply a reflection of how both of my parents were raised. And while I can know that my parents did their best, emotional intelligence just wasn’t a familial strong suit.

A lot of my newer friends don’t know this about me, but I used to really struggle with comfortably and confidently expressing my emotions. I’m able to push myself to do it now (thanks to therapy), but it still feels weird. Emery, though, has no problem telling you exactly how she feels, who she’s mad at, and what you can do to fix it. She’s the best self-advocate I’ve never met, and I’m actually terrified for the person who tries to cross her when she’s an adult 😂.

I’m ridiculously proud of who my little lady is growing up to be. I seriously want to be like her when I grow up. She’s confident, sweet, assertive, smart, and just everything I’ve ever wanted to be as a woman. And this, not even, three old child is out here killing the “life” game like this.

I kid you not - when you become a parent, you’d be surprised at how much your children teach you about yourself and who you want and don’t want to be. They will have you out here doubting everything you thought you were. You can use that info for good or self-sabotage, and there’s nothing you can do to escape it… Thanks E 🥴

But I’m working on myself, and taking tips from my baby, because she’s got it.
